Traditional vs laser vs sublimation: which engraving is right for your award?

Meta description: Not sure whether you need traditional engraving, laser engraving or sublimation? Brighton Trophy Centre explains the difference and what works best for trophies, medals and corporate awards in Adelaide.

Body:

Choosing an award is only half the job. The way it’s personalised is what makes it feel like theirs.

At Brighton Trophy Centre we use three main methods: traditional engraving, laser engraving and sublimation (full-colour print). Here’s a simple guide to which is best for what.

Traditional engraving

Classic cut lettering into metal plates, cups and many trophy components.

Best for:
Metal plates, cups, perpetual shields, formal trophies where you want a timeless look.

Why clubs like it:
It looks traditional and permanent — ideal for presentation nights and long-term display.

Laser engraving

A precise laser marks the surface of glass, acrylic, timber, crystal and some metals.

Best for:
Glass awards, acrylic trophies, timber pieces, crystal, and detailed logos that need clean edges.

Why it works well:
Great detail, consistent results, and it suits modern corporate and sport awards.

Sublimation (full colour)

Full-colour artwork is printed onto suitable surfaces — often medals, plaques or items designed for colour logos.

Best for:
Club logos in colour, bright designs, medals and products set up for sublimation.

Why teams choose it:
Your colours and logo stay true — useful when brand identity matters as much as the award itself.

Not sure which to pick?

You don’t have to decide alone. Tell us what you’re ordering (sport, school, corporate), the material, and whether you have a logo file. We’ll recommend the best method for the product and your deadline.

Turnaround times

  • Standard orders: about 7–10 business days
  • Large orders (full teams, clubs, or school sets): please allow at least 3 weeks — more time is better if your event date allows
